It was a normal day, but not like any normal day. I turn on my computer getting ready to do...
something (I forgot what). Then suddenly and error message appear. So I do what all normal Microsoft
Windows98 end-user would do,... reboot. That didn't stop the error. So I tried safe mode. Still can't
get into windows. Well the only thing that I knew what to do next is format! Usually I format my
'puter' once every two month :). I don't know why but my windows will start to act funny if I didn't
format it. May be because of all the weird stuff that I've downloaded from the Net. Some of the
software messes up my registry and I'm just too lazy to look it up and fix it. But that wasn't the
problem this time. It was something else. First the scan disk part it says there are a lot of error
on my D: drive (that is my secondary/slave harddisk not my cd-rom). This is where all of my work files
go. This is also my backup. So I can format my C: drive whenever I want... so I thought. The scan
disk can't fix the error so windows98 setup won't start. I decide to format my D: drive. So I did,
oh my good! My work, the 'html' files about The Nodal Point, and every thing, its gone (this is why
the updates on Nodal Point is late). I tried again to run setup but the same error message still
appears. Ok now its personal. I open up the casing take out my slave harddisk and then start
installing windows98. Every thing is fine until in the middle on the installation, some shit error
message about rundll or something started coming out. Arggg!! F*#k &^%# (sounds of me frustrated).
Ok I think I need a rest. I went to see the magic black box that you can see moving pictures and
sounds, which will make your frustration and stress go far, far away (for you who is woundering, its the
television). Astro is a good add-on on your TV set. 20 over channels, but you end up seeing yourself switching from channel to channel
and wondering why there is nothing good on TV. But it's ok though, you still have 20 plus channel it
will take you some time to switch through all the channels. As I said, today is a normal day not like
any normal day. Of all the day, today my Astro fuck up. Service not available. It sounds like my
computer! Damn. My frustration meter is getting closer to red. Ok at least I still got my TV.
Stranded with only four channels. Boring. It has been a long time since I 'channel surfing' through
these four channels. You know how fast it is to finish switching through these four channels? Super
fast. And there is one other thing that pisses me off. All the news is on 8 o'clock. All the four
channel have its news hour at eight. WHY?... is there a universal TV rule which state "all news must
be at 8 o'clock" what if I feel not wanting to watch the news? One of the channel should put
something other then news at 8 o'clock (this is relevant to the non-Astro channel).
Now I turn to another form of entertainment, the radio. I tried to get my favorite radio channel
which is HITZ FM by the way :). They are ok, but sometime they play lots of boy band's song again and
again and again and again, which then makes them boring. But today the case is different, I can't
even get the channel. I tried tuning and tuning and all I got is some Indian channel, which is also
not very clear. Let's listen to cassette. I pressed the eject button but the cassette tray just wont
open. To hell with cassette, CD is batter. Opps I don't really got a CD player, it got lost in my
holiday trip to Tioman. After that lost, I use my computer to play my CDs, and now... we are back to the
starting point. This is when I snap. Frustration meter reaches red. Captain, we have lost cabin
pressure.
I calm myself from starting to throw things. I sit and think about this situation. Every electronic
device seems not to be in working order. Why today? It seems that the electrons are making a joke, a
cruel joke. Yeah I could see it, they all are laughing at me, even now as I type this. This is not
like a blackout where there is no electricity. This is much worse. When there is a blackout you know
that those guys at TNB are working on it and you will get your electricity back if not sooner then
later. But this, the electricity is there but nothing seems to be working the way you want it. It
makes you feels like a cat. You know, the game you always play with cats. You wiggle a string of
thread in its face than when the cat wants to grab it with its paws, you pull it away. Now I know
how the cat feels, very, very pissed off!!!
That is not the point actually. The point is that I almost became mad, insane because of no
computer (therefor no Internet, games, CD, MP3), no TV, no Radio. Note that I stress out the word
'almost' :). Imagine if you live in a world with out this technology. No electricity, no electrons.
Look here, you wash your clothes with a washing machine, you cook your rice with a rice cooker, you
go to work with your car, ok so you don't have a car and don't drive but you still use buses or LRT
or whatever public transport. Now imagine the technology is gone. Can we still live? We are relying
so much on the technologies and electrons. We at the mercy of the machines. Can we live without them?
We are living in a concrete jungle, the machines are the animals. Learn to tame them and they will do
good for you. They (the machine) just don't get much appreciation form us. You know what? there should
be a 'machine day' or a 'technology day'. Yes more day off on the calendar. Yeah you like? vote for
me at the next election :).
Hmm,... enough babbling. Got my comp running back which happens to be something wrong with my RAM
(thanks terew!!!). Got to take of one of my RAM, I'm now running on only 32MB RAM,... sucks. My
Astro got back all the channel, after giving a call to the Astro customer service. And for my radio?
ah who cares, I think I'm getting a new one :). If you think about what I've just wrote, its not that
I cant live without technology, its I cant live without entertainment right? :).
